Elizabeth is a licensed physician in both Canada and the United States, and joined the Health Policy PhD program at McMaster in 2011. She completed her medical degree and family medicine residency at the University of Toledo in Ohio, and earned a master’s degree in public health through the Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health. She has worked in multiple healthcare settings in Canada, the U.S., and Honduras, including as the associate medical officer of health in Thunder Bay.

Her PhD work revolves around knowledge translation from evidence to healthcare policy in low- and middle-income countries, to support the local contextualization of global health systems guidance. Elizabeth has provided support to the African regional office for the World Health Organization (WHO-AFRO) at the Regional Consultation on Optimizing Health Workers’ Roles to Improve Access to Key Maternal and Newborn Health Interventions Through Task-shifting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in September 2012 and to the EVIPNet Steering Group and WHO at its workshop on sharing practices in research uptake, knowledge translation and knowledge management in Geneva, Switzerland in September 2014.

She is supervised by John Lavis and supported through the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) International Research Chair in Evidence-Informed Health Policies and Systems, which is held by Nelson Sewankambo (Makerere University) in partnership with John Lavis, by a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, and by a Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Canada Graduate Scholarship - Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement for fieldwork.
